April Athletes of the Month – Tegan Digby & Christine Reid

Here in the Athletic Zone we’re all on this journey ‘to be better’ as a team – What it means to you ‘to be better’ will be different to the next person; and their level of compliance and commitment ‘to be better’ will also be different to yours.

Where ever you are at, one thing is for sure it is not easy. Is it worth it? You know the answer to that, of course it is. This quest to be better, to constantly challenge yourself and each other, is what keeps you coming back day after day, week after week, month after month. This is the CrossFit community. An incredibly supportive, motivating and fun environment that helps people achieve a level of fitness and health that can’t be replicated.

Challenges, successes and triumphs shared with the entire support of the AZ group every step of the way, can simply not be underestimated!

Each month we recognise one of our athletes. This athlete may or may not know how much they are inspiring those around them with their achievements in and out of the Athletic Zone.

Congratulations to Athletic Zones April Athletes of the Month – Tegan Digby & Christine Reid!

This month we recognise two athletes, rather than our normal recognition of one athlete for Athlete of the Month.

Tegan and Christine have quietly been going about their business this year preparing for their first Weightlifting competition under the guidance of our head Weightlifting Coach Christian.

Standing on the platform on your own with all eyes on you is definitely a way to get out of your comfort zone; that alone is worthy of a nomination for AOM.

Not only did these weapons get on the platform competing and exceeding their own expectations, they both qualified for States.

Both Tegan and Christine have great attitudes and are extremely coachable, making them an absolute pleasure to coach, they are very humble and just great human beings.

Watching their fitness journey to date is a testament to what can be achieved when you set a goal, have the right mind set and the willingness to work hard consistently to follow through with what your set out to achieve.

From everyone in the AZ thank you for inspiring us all with your positive attitudes, dedication and humbleness.

 Continue to improve.

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?

Yes. Made some great friends, and learnt a lot about health and fitness as well as the satisfaction you get from challenging yourself and giving things that may be uncomfortable a go!

What is your number 1 tip for someone looking to get healthier?

Get started, develop a routine and its all about the consistency (nutrition and training). Important to also work out what your motivation is.

If you were to create a WOD and name it after yourself, it would be:

Christine and I have done a partner wod…as follows:

“Girls Gone Wild” – Partner WOD

100 DUs each buy in (both athletes working at the same time, can’t move on until both athletes complete DUs)

5 RFT – IGYG format (each athlete must complete entire rep range of movement before next athlete begins)

2 BMU

4 C&J

6 HSPU

8 Snatch

100 DUs each buy out (both athletes working at the same time, wod complete when second athlete finishes DUs)

BB weight:

Fitness/ Scaled – you choose weight (must be same for C&J and Snatch)

RX: L: 35kg/ M: 50kg

RX+: L: 40kg / M: 60kg

A few moments with Christine:

When did you start doing Cross-fit?

Most loved WOD/Movement?

It’s probably no secret that I love the WL movements but I also enjoy the challenge of working on some of the gymnastics skills.

Least Favourite WOD/Movement?

Burpees and airdyne.

Favourite cheat meal?

Brunch with a coffee frappe.

Proudest Moment?

In CF I think you appreciate all the little achievements along the way – the new PB on a lift, the first time getting a gymnastics movement, going in a comp, or sometimes just finishing a tough workout.

What was your goal when joining Athletic Zone?

I was looking for a new fitness challenge and I certainly found it.

What is your 6 month goal?

I’d like to keep improving on my lifts, and also to be able to do all the gymnastics skills consistently – butterfly PUs and ring MU are next on the list.

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?

Yes it has in many ways, including becoming part of a great community that does a lot of things together outside the gym as well.

What is your number 1 tip for someone looking to get healthier?

I’ve always found that the people around you can make a huge difference, and if you can get involved in a group or club, or somewhere that has an awesome community like AZ does, then it makes it a lot easier to stay motivated.
