March Athlete of the Month – Janet Molloy

Here in the Athletic Zone we’re all on this journey ‘to be better’ as a team – What it means to you ‘to be better’ will be different to the next person; and their level of compliance and commitment ‘to be better’ will also be different to yours.

Where ever you are at, one thing is for sure it is not easy. Is it worth it? You know the answer to that, of course it is. This quest to be better, to constantly challenge yourself and each other, is what keeps you coming back day after day, week after week, month after month. This is the CrossFit community. An incredibly supportive, motivating and fun environment that helps people achieve a level of fitness and health that can’t be replicated.

Challenges, successes and triumphs shared with the entire support of the AZ group every step of the way, can simply not be underestimated!

Each month we recognise one of our athletes. This athlete may or may not know how much they are inspiring those around them with their achievements in and out of the Athletic Zone.

Congratulations to Athletic Zone’s March Athlete of the Month – Janet Molloy!

Almost a year ago Janet was dragged down to Athletic Zone by her training buddy Bernie to try out CrossFit. When Janet first started she had a squat that resembled more of an egg shape than that of a supple leopard and her overhead position wasn’t much better than lifting a broomstick to eye level. Most people would have never come back, for most that would be too many hurdles to jump over to get on a good workout, but Janet is not like most people.

Janet just kept showing up, kept a positive attitude and sourced out help from the coaches. She did the little things that a lot of people neglect and to stick at that for close to a year is a testament to her will power and determination. Janet always strives to be just a little bit better than yesterday! Janet has now got the mobility on her hips to squat properly, can press overhead and has strung together T2B and kipping pull ups!

It has been awesome watching your progress mate, you are a true champion. Keep up the good work, I can’t wait to see what another 12 months looks like!

A few moments with Janet:

When did you start doing CrossFit?

Most loved WOD/Movement?

Pull-Up/Deadlift

Least Favourite WOD/Movement?

Airdyne

Favourite cheat meal?

Ice cream – preferably Ben & Jerry’s Choc Chip Cookie Dough

Proudest Moment?

Finishing the Gold Coast marathon in under 4 hours

What was your goal when joining Athletic Zone?

Improving overall fitness

What is your 6 month goal?

Finally master toes to bar, kipping pull-ups and double unders!

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?

Yes! My mobility was pretty poor when I first started (and, let’s face it, could still use some work). CrossFit really highlighted my movement restrictions and provided the motivation to improve my range of motion which has resulted in some pretty significant improvements in my overall health.

What is your number 1 tip for someone looking to get healthier?

Everyone has to start somewhere – set goals and be consistent

If you were to create a WOD and name it after yourself, it would be:

The JMo:

20 min AMRAP in teams

900m block run buy in

Then

30 wall balls

20 deadlifts

10 pull-ups
