October Athlete of Month – Rhiannon West

Here in the Athletic Zone we’re all on this journey ‘to be better’ as a team – What it means to you ‘to be better’ will be different to the next person; and their level of compliance and commitment ‘to be better’ will also be different to yours.

Where ever you are at, one thing is for sure it is not easy. Is it worth it? You know the answer to that, of course it is. This quest to be better, to constantly challenge yourself and each other, is what keeps you coming back day after day, week after week, month after month. This is the CrossFit community. An incredibly supportive, motivating and fun environment that helps people achieve a level of fitness and health that can’t be replicated.

Challenges, successes and triumphs shared with the entire support of the AZ group every step of the way, can simply not be underestimated!

Each month we recognise one of our athletes. This athlete may or may not know how much they are inspiring those around them with their achievements in and out of the Athletic Zone.

Congratulation to Athletic Zone’s October Athlete of the Month – Rhiannon West!

The CrossFit Spirit is all about giving 100% all the time and encouraging others to do the same. In my opinion, Rhiannon is the embodiment of the CrossFit Spirit. Coachable, caring, and hard-working are the main characteristics that are obvious when you meet her.

Every time she steps foot in the box, she happily and enthusiastically steps up to any challenges thrown her way and whole-heartedly gives her all in every workout.

Not only is she a hard-worker herself, she strives to encourage others to do the same. Throughout any class, it is common to hear Rhiannon’s voice cheering on other athletes as she works alongside them. With this, she also warmly welcomes new athletes into class and is always keeping an eye out and helping them in any way possible.

Rhiannon’s very admirable character sets her up as a great role model for all our athletes as to how you should carry yourself during training.

Thanks for being part of our community and congratulations Rhiannon, you’ve earnt this one!

A few moments with Rhiannon:

When did you start doing Cross Fit?

September 2012 (Five years!)

Most loved WOD/Movement?

Cleans, burpees, toes-to-bar, deadlift, squat…

Least favourite WOD/Movement?

I am happy to say that since coming to AZ I have made my peace with wall balls. Now my least favourite is the AIRDYNE.

Favourite cheat meal?

I don’t really call it a ‘cheat meal’, but I love a Zen Hen burger and sweet potato fries from Grilld’! Or homemade nachos.

Proudest moment?

Every PB is a proud moment.

What was your goal when joining Athletic Zone?

To workout with my partner, to make new friends and to smash WODs.

What is your 6 month goal?

Keen to join the 100kg backsquat club. Reliable ring muscle-ups would also be nice.

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?

It has had an overwhelmingly positive effect on my life. It’s given me an opportunity and an environment to be my whole self, and to be proud of who I am and what I can achieve. I have made brilliant friends (and met a pretty good bloke).

What is your number 1 tip for someone looking to get healthier?

Join crossfit (or any group training that involves metabolic conditioning and strength training). Hold yourself to account (but don’t be too hard on yourself). Trust in the training and don’t look for easy outs. Do the work. Surround yourself with like-minded people and you will see your health and lifestyle change.

If you were to create a WOD and name it after yourself, what would that be?
