October Athlete of the Month – Kristen Walker

Here in the Athletic Zone we’re all on this journey ‘to be better’ as a team – What it means to you ‘to be better’ will be different to the next person; and their level of compliance and commitment ‘to be better’ will also be different to yours.

Where ever you are at, one thing is for sure, it is not easy. Is it worth it? You know the answer to that, of course it is. This quest to be better, to constantly challenge yourself and each other, is what keeps you coming back day after day, week after week, month after month. This is the CrossFit community. An incredibly supportive, motivating and fun environment that helps people achieve a level of fitness and health that can’t be replicated.

Challenges, successes and triumphs shared with the entire support of the AZ group every step of the way, can simply not be underestimated!

Each month we recognise one of our athletes. This athlete may or may not know how much they are inspiring those around them with their achievements in and out of the Athletic Zone.

Congratulations to our August Athlete of the Month – Kristen Walker!

Kristen has really impressed me over the past couple of months, having only started her Crossfit journey earlier this year and being nervous about training the Olympic lifts, to being fully confident on what ever movement is put in front of her has been a testament to her character. What has impressed me the most is she is always taking on the coaches advice by putting in that 10-15 min a day working on either mobility or skills, her handstands have come along way and her mobility has improved as well. One other thing that really stands out to me is she is an awesome and encouraging member of our community and is always keen to give something a go.

Well done mate, can’t wait to see where you are in another six months time.

When did you start doing CrossFit?
April 2016
Most Loved WOD/Movement?
Any WOD that has running in it.
Least Favourite WOD/Movement?
Anytime I see chest-to-bar because it’ll be a while before I  can do it.
Favourite Cheat Meal?
Pizza and beer.
Proudest Moment?
Completing my first WOD Rx with movements that I couldn’t do when I started CrossFit. (Thrusters and double unders)
What was your goal when joining the Athletic Zone?  
To get stronger and learn Olympic lifting movements.
What is your 6month goal?
Hold a ‘freestanding’ handstand.
Has CrossFit affected your life outside the Gym?
I have more time and energy than when I was doing triathlon training.
What is your number 1 tip for someone looking to get healthier?
Do something each day that makes you happy.
